Root rot is a serious disease of field pea for which successful control has been elusive. The most prevalent causal agents for root rot in field pea in Manitoba have been Rhizoctonia solani and Fusaruim solani but recent findings suggest other Fusarium species have the potential to infect pea cultivars. To acquire new information on root rot pathogens in Manitoba, 40 commercial pea fields will be evaluated for the incidence and severity of root rot. Fusarium and Rhizoctonia spp. will be identified and pathogenicity tests will be conducted using a susceptible pea cultivar. New information on root rot pathogens will be provided by this research and used to screen for host resistance as well as design effective control measures.
