Research Objectives
The objectives of this on-farm research project were to:
Evaluate soybean management strategies on-farm with field scale tillage equipment in a range of soybean growing areas across Manitoba
Evaluate the impact of soybean residue management strategies on subsequent crop performance and spring soil properties
Conduct research that provides useful information to farmers for making sound agronomic decisions about crop and land management
Build a team of partners with complimentary skills for on-farm soybean research in Manitoba
Farmers throughout Manitoba are investing resources and time incorporating soybean residues in the fall using varying amounts of tillage. This contrasts with current residue management practices in other growing regions in Canada in the US where farmers most often direct seed subsequent crops into soybean stubble.
The purpose of this project is to evaluate residue management strategies for soybeans in Manitoba. Given the increasing number of farmers and acres of soybean production in Manitoba, this project could have a significant impact on land management and the allocation of time and resources on farms throughout Manitoba.
